Local plan scoping consultation

I am writing to express my strong belief that the revised local plan for Cheshire East should provide a high level of protection for green belt land around Ashley, Mobberley, and Knutsford. As a resident of Knutsford, I feel strongly that these are three distinct communities with their own identities. A key asset for all three settlements is the attractive open countryside which surrounds them. Despite proximity to major transport networks, these are places which still retain rural landscapes of considerable environmental significance (not least by providing wildlife corridors). The traditional agricultural use of much of the greenbelt in this area also contributes to the local economy and to national food security.

I appreciate the need for more housing in Cheshire East. However, I should like to see the prioritising of building on waste land in substantial settlements such as Crewe (where regeneration might be beneficial), rather than the recategorizing or destruction of greenbelt which is serving a vital purpose.
