1.4 - I shall focus on Key issues for Crewe area with respect to the Rail industry and local rail businesses.

Vision and strategy - Crewe is here because of the railway. Although the town of Crewe now offers much more than being a 'Rail town' we must not forget the history and the fact that many employers in Crewe are still helping to run the nations railways and contribute greatly to the local skills and economy.

The station gateway to Crewe is in appalling repair and must be modernised along with revised access for all modes of transport

4.5 - The 360 degree connectivity of Crewe to the North, South, East and West of the United Kingdom should be capitalised upon for freight and passenger travel. Development of the station and surrounding area is critical to this and ensuring it aligns with North / South rail plans to enable Cheshire to benefit from the replacement for HS2

4.7 - Long term plans to make Crewe the 'Best small city in Europe by 2050' will require a higher education facility in the town. This should be considered within this plan.

5.3 - Crewe as 'best small city in Europe' needs to be included within this Vision statement. The detailed objectives and future plans then enable development and projects to align with this vision and be coordinated and joined up - including development of public realm, housing, education, jobs, retail and leisure.

5.69 - some SME's within the Rail sector in Crewe are looking for additional premises to purchase locally. Unfortunately most buildings are either rental or huge warehouses. We would appreciate plans for more SME sized industrial units or a Rail industrial park to be situated in the vicinity of Crewe

5.70 - whilst agreeing with the general commentary there is a need to act decisively and quickly. Crewe Town Centre redevelopment has stalled far too many times and the current development plans with Capital&Centric need progressing at pace to start the redevelopment and catalyse further regeneration

5.91 - Crewe is geographically perfect within Cheshire East as a central transport hub. The plan needs to include a heavy focus on this to include major regeneration of the railway station and surrounding area, plus integration of cycle / walk / car / bus transportation to and from the railway station, town centre and major employment areas.

Integration with North / South rail and Manchester and Liverpool airport are also important to consider.
