The original Green belt was to safeguard countryside from encroachment- essential in maintaining connectivity between ecologically valuable areas and also for the physical and mental well being ; land should not be classified as “Grey Belt”.
Imaginative and sustainable solutions to our town centres are surrounding areas are also needed; dereilct sites are unattractive to commercial development due to costs. If such areas were developed imgainativly with mixed landuses including shared garden, socal areas, amenity rooms, electric car charging points, shared car cluabs and housing this would boost social sustianabilty and reduce reliance on private fossil fuel cars.
