Representation Summary:
I strongly object to the proposed development of thousands of houses in Ashley. I am concerned about the loss of high-quality productive farmland and the implications for food security, and believe brownfield sites should be prioritised. I consider the proposals contrary to Green Belt protection and am concerned about the loss of woodland, wildlife habitats and nesting areas. I also raise significant highway safety concerns, as Ashley Road, Castle Mill Lane and Mobberley Road are already constrained and unable to accommodate substantial additional traffic. Local infrastructure is also inadequate, with pressure on schools, hospitals and health services and no local shopping provision.

I wish to object very strongly to build thousands of houses in Ashley.
1. It takes very good quality farmland out of productive use at a time when food security is under great strain and the Government is stressing that we need to be eating more home produced food. Importing food from across the globe adds to global warming. Brownfield sites, of which there are plenty in the more built up areas of East Cheshire, are a far better source of land for housing, especially as they already have support in schools, doctors and shopping.
2. The proposal is totally contrary to the Council's Green Belt policies and would destroy a vital green fresh air lung for the area and surrounding conurbations. It is not environmentally justifiable and would destroy much woodland, breeding and nesting areas.
3. Access is difficult already. Ashley Road, Castle Mill Lane and Mobberley Roads are incapable of taking more traffic safely and cannot be widened sufficiently to take more traffic. Only last weekend there was an accident on Ashley Road between the Bollin bridge on Ashley Road and Ryecroft Lane which closed the road for several hours. The only alternative routes were either via Castle Mill Lane or through Rostherne and Mere again on roads that cannot cope with additional traffic, never mind the additional air pollution caused by the detour.
4. There is no provision for schools, those serving the area are all full, as are hospitals. Likewise the local health service is under strain. There is no provision for shopping, there are no shops in the area.
