Local plan scoping consultation

I am writing to formally object to the proposed 291-hectare development across 12 contiguous parcels of land at Ashley.
I strongly believe this land should remain protected Green Belt. It is high-performing Green Belt, not Grey Belt, and plays an important role in preventing urban sprawl, maintaining the vital countryside gap between Greater Manchester and Cheshire, and protecting open and productive farmland.
Ashley is a small rural settlement with very limited infrastructure and services. There is no bus network, rail provision is limited, and access to the area relies on narrow roads and constrained bridges. A development of this scale would place completely disproportionate pressure on the local road network, drainage, utilities and wider infrastructure.
There would also be significant and irreversible impacts on the surrounding landscape, wildlife habitats and the rural character of the area, as well as the settings of numerous listed and historic buildings.
In my view, this is fundamentally the wrong location for development of this scale. The harm caused would substantially outweigh any proposed benefits.
I therefore urge Cheshire East Council to retain full Green Belt protection for this land and to reject its allocation for development entirely.
