Local plan scoping consultation

TLDR - My strong view is that the priority for the local plan should be to protect green belt land from development. Brownfield and greenfield (non green-belt) sites should be used where new development is needed.

I have lived in Macclesfield for over two years, having moved from central Manchester, and I love it here.

My favourite thing about Macclesfield is the unique character of the town which comes from it sitting on the transition between the Peak District moors and hills and the more typical Cheshire countryside. Macclesfield is surrounded by lovely and varied countryside, different in each direction. And unlike many modern towns, Macclesfield has kept it's separation from surrounding villages like Prestbury, Sutton and Bollington without sprawling development merging them.

That's why I think it should be the priority for the local plan to protect the green belt land around Macclesfield from development. I think this is essential to maintain the character, visual appeal and nature of the Macclesfield area.

I understand that new development is required but brownfield and (if required) greenfield sites should be used for this while maintaining the green belt.

For me, the hills around Macclesfield (mainly fields and trees with few existing buildings), which can be seen from almost anywhere in the town, are the view that best represents what Macclesfield is. Spoiling this by covering them with new development would make Macclesfield a far poorer place to live.
