Representation Summary:
I am deeply concerned about continued development proposals and believe areas with high biodiversity, protected species and irreplaceable habitats should be protected, alongside neighbouring land that provides wildlife corridors and buffers. Peatland should be protected and restored because of its importance for carbon storage, biodiversity, flood risk and water. Climate change and increasing flood risk should be important considerations when selecting sites for development. Green spaces should also be protected for their contribution to physical and mental wellbeing and opportunities for education. I also believe the Council should challenge the proposed 146% increase in housing given climate change and biodiversity concerns.

I'm writing to add comments to the Local Plan Consultation, and would like to express how deeply concerned I am with reoccuring development plans in our area.
Wildlife & Habitat Protection
We should not build on areas which have high levels of biodiversity, are home to an abundance of wildlife and protected species, in addition to destroying irreplaceable habitats. These include but not limited to; ancient woodland, lowland raised bogs, and wildflower grasslands.
This also includes neighboring land which acts as a buffer and wildlife corridor, which is vitally important in the case of disasters such as wildfires, something we've been utterly devasted by and unequipped to deal with this year.
These sites should be protected at all costs and should be key in the decision-making process.
Peatland
Peatlands store more carbon than any other types of vegetation in the world combined. The destruction of it releases this carbon into our atmosphere.
Peatlands are also critical in preserving biodiversity, minimising flood risks and ensuring safe drinking water.
We should be including peatland restoration and protection into plans.
Flood risks
Climate change is increasing the risk of natural disasters such as flood risks. Avoiding these flood risks must be an important factor in site selection.
Green Space for All
These spaces are also vital for the physical and mental well-being of all of us, they need to be preserved and protected.
We need to have access to these sites to understand and appreciate their importance. We should couple this with greater education into what they provide and how to look after them.
Challenge the 'required' level of housing
Cheshire East Council must challenge the 146% increase in housing. Is it really sustainable when faced with climate change and biodiversity loss?

I'm writing to add comments to the Local Plan Consultation, and would like to express how deeply concerned I am with reoccuring development plans in our area.
