It is crucial that the vision emphasises the opportunity that a transformational and brave local plan could offer the people of Cheshire East. To paraphrase the draft Greener Macc' vision statement. "A borough that cares for all its communities and the environment equally — at the forefront of tackling climate change and biodiversity loss, where fuel and food insecurity fall, air and water grow cleaner, waste shrinks and economic opportunity grows."

5.6 is too weak. "seek to support..." = not good enough. Be strong, be clear and prescriptive. E.g. - "the plan will ensure a thriving economy that has green growth and environmental stewardship at it's core". And "...development must contribute measurably to sustainability objectives"... etc.

Creative planning could free-up sites which currently are being used inefficiently and are possibly now located in inappropriate settings. The plan should consider how relocation of light industrial to peripheries could free land in prime residential locations. Intelligent physical re-stacking of aligned use categories together could achieve net gains for housing numbers in the borough - while protecting green sites and enhancing existing predominantly residential neighbourhoods.

The plan should support development of wide reaching strategic investment in coordination of activities to enhance Macclesfield's potential as a gateway to the Peak District. This is a significant and overlooked positive quality of one of the Borough's two principle towns - and could if managed correctly - dramatically benefit residents of the town and those from the wider borough who may wish to visit.

Inverting the road user hierarchy is crucial to success. Get people out of cars, improve community, pedestrian and cyclist safety, individuals' cardiovascular health and the quality of air and water adjacent to roads. All through a holistic and brave road-use strategy that prioritises quality of life for families in our towns. Children should be able to cycle to school without any danger, people should be able to access their town's facilities without the need for a car - none of our towns are that big... but the current (outdated) layout and set-up forces a negative reality.

Protect and enhance the natural environment because it is arguably our greatest untapped resource. There is great potential for "honey-pot" economics if we get this right - some of our towns could be transformed into renown destinations for all kinds of out-door pursuits.
